Two Tab Formats

for Guitar, 5-String Banjo, Mandolin and Dobro

LeWalt and TablEdit tab formats ...

We offer tabs in TablEdit format, and in what we call "LeWalt" format. While all tabs listed on the web site are available in TablEdit format, LeWalt tabs are available only for arrangements that have been recorded.

Hard copy and Email tabs...

When you purchase tabs in TablEdit format via PayPal, they are emailed to you as attachments the same day your order is received. To open such attachments, it's necessary to download TablEdit's free tab viewer (called "TEFview") to your computer from their website, if you haven't already done so.

LeWalt tabs, on the other hand, are available in hard copy form only and cannot be emailed. Instead, orders for LeWalt tabs are shipped to your postal address.

Differences between TablEdit and LeWalt tabs...

TablEdit Tabs:

If you're not familiar with TablEdit, it is a software program and learning tool that enables you to see tabs on your computer screen and print them out, courtesy of a variety of fonts and type faces. You can also hear them played back in MIDI format at any tempo you wish, just by pressing the space bar on your keyboard. That means CD demos are not necessary for timing reference, and because TablEdit tabs are emailed, there are no shipping charges.

LeWalt Tabs:

The LeWalt tab format is unique in that it features a timing display consisting of white and shaded spaces that is easier to read and comprehend than that of "standard" tab. Also, all left-hand information is included for every tab. TablEdit is able to accommodate some of this information, but not all of it. In addition, reference recordings are available on CD and in .mp3 format. This means you get to hear real instruments demonstrating the songs you order, rather than MIDI playbacks.

Although LeWalt tab is similar to other tab formats in that it consists mainly of fret numbers on string lines, some explanation of how to read it is necessary. With that in mind, a free tablature interpretation booklet that also includes tips for developing technique and good practice habits is included the first time you order.
